Questions people ask

What do Original, Enhanced and No shadow mean?

Original is the page cropped and squared up, untouched otherwise. Enhanced drives the paper towards white and holds the ink dark — the scanned look. No shadow evens out the lighting but leaves the tone alone, which suits photographs and coloured pages.

What does Flatten page do, and why is it off?

It flattens curvature — a book that will not lie flat, a folded receipt — rather than only correcting the angle. It is slower and it is not always the right answer: on a rigid, genuinely flat page it can impose a curve that was never there. Turn it on when the page is curved.

Where do saved pages go?

Into your photo library, at the resolution the camera captured, as a JPEG. The app asks for add-only access the first time, so it can put pages in without being able to read your library.

The page came out crooked or cut off.

The page is found by detecting its edges, so it needs to be fully in frame with a little margin, on a background it contrasts with. A dark desk helps; a white page on white paper does not. If detection fails, the photo is used as it is rather than cropped wrongly.

Can I scan several pages at once?

Yes. Scan or pick as many as you like and they stack up: swipe between them, and the mode and Flatten page apply to all of them. Save writes every page to your photo library in the order you see them, and the bin removes the one you are looking at.

Does it work offline?

Always. There is no network code in the app, so it behaves identically in aeroplane mode.

Can I save a page as a PDF?

Not from ScanME: pages go to your photo library as JPEGs. To make a PDF, select the pages in Photos, tap Share, choose Print, then pinch out on the preview and share from there — iOS turns it into a PDF. For anything more involved, Birme PDF does it in the browser.

Where is the tip jar?

On the About screen: the ⓘ button in the top-left corner of the app. Tipping is entirely optional and the app never asks.

I tipped. What did I unlock?

Nothing, deliberately. A tip is a thank-you; the app is the same before and after. Tips are consumable purchases, so there is nothing to restore on a new device.

Which languages does it speak?

English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Dutch and Indonesian. It follows your phone's language setting.

What does it need to run?

iOS 18 or later, on iPhone or iPad. Scanning needs a camera; choosing an existing photo does not.
